AI Technology and Automation with Digital Marketing Strategy

9 Sep 2025

AI and automation is the future

It was 2022 when the AI boom dropped onto the digital marketing landscape. Although to be more precise, AI and automation has been around since digital marketing came into the fore, it was 2022 when the embrace of this technology reached critical mass. Brands and digital marketing agencies had to adapt to the sudden rise of this technology.

I distinctly remember when a director at a former company I worked for announced a shift to using AI in our process in 2023. It was painful but an extremely rewarding endeavor.

But the question is: how exactly as digital marketers do we maximize the use of AI and automation to maximize our goals? Let’s find out.

Should We Let AI Handle Our Content Creation

The most ubiquitous use case of AI is probably content creation. If content is king, then an easy, fast way of churning out content would be AI.

It’s so easy that you can actually make this whole article by going into any of the readily available Large Language Models like ChatGPT, type in the title of this article and it will write the whole thing for you.

But we contend that this is the weakest way to use AI for digital marketing in a sense that if every digital marketing activity goes through this process, they all begin to sound the same. In fact, with a little effort, you could actually tell if a content is produced by AI through certain tells in the structure and the imagery produced. It all becomes a bit homogeneous.

And in digital marketing, homogeneity is death.

(Alt Text: AI was supposed to make things easier)

Human creativity, its weirdness and complexities, are what makes authentic content creation work. Instead, you should let AI work as a helpful tool and not the main driver of your creative work. Idea generation, research, editing and proofing, these are better uses for AI rather than making it your artist and writer.

We’re not saying that you shouldn’t be using AI in your content, but for now, maybe it’s better if the AI is writing a mundane email or a simple reminder. Your concepts are still better when they come from you.

AI can make mundane tasks earlier

Let AI Sweat The Small Stuff

What AI excels at is handling the minutiae of digital marketing. Those little tiny tasks that make your marketing effort all the more effective.

For example, someone clicking on your ad on Facebook or Instagram will probably land on a website once and most likely forget about it the next day. But what if AI can automate it so that your prospective client gets reminded and with judicious use of content, give a better, more compelling signal to buy?

That’s why when you click on an ad nowadays, you’ll probably see more content that is similar (and from the same company) being served to you. This signal to engage accumulates and is proven to get an acquisition.

You can also have your AI automatically emailing clients or alerting someone in your sales organization when a customer triggers a certain set of parameters.

These are the tiny little tasks that can’t be handled by humans all the time. Instead, by delegating these to an AI, you make sure that all your bases are covered and your potential sale or other marketing objective doesn’t slip through the cracks. It leaves the marketer room to handle the more important decisions in the marketing plan.

Eliminate analysis paralysis with AI and Automation

No More Analysis Paralysis

We all know that data is the life blood of any digital marketing. From data and its analysis springs forth strategies and directions that can make or break a digital marketing plan.

The problem? Most marketers get stuck in a form of analysis paralysis. Enter the power of AI and automation. To be more accurate, AI doesn’t mean that the programs are actually intelligent. Rather, these systems are more really powerful pattern recognition systems. And what is data analytics other than recognizing patterns in a data set?

You can use AI to discover emerging patterns and trends through various data points. Linear regressions and even more exotic extrapolations can be done by AI. This allows a digital marketer to get ahead of the curve and be on a trend before it even starts. In essence an AI allows you to improve all parts of your SWOT analysis by capitalizing on your Strengths, eliminating Weaknesses, and letting you discover emerging Threats and Opportunities.

What’s more, AI can give recommendations, totally eliminating the aforementioned analysis paralysis and getting you moving in the right directions. Your digital strategy is supercharged when you have an AI on board.
